Boasting an extensive menu that highlights traditional and specialty dishes as well as popular street foods, Cantina Kahlo invites diners to explore Mexican flavours. Key ingredients are imported from Mexico to remain true to the authentic flavours.

The culinary experience starts with traditional Mexican drinks: agua de jamaica, made from hibiscus flower water; the rice-based horchata water; and tangy tamarindo water. One of the main starters is guacamole, the avocado-based dip served in a traditional molcajete, a volcanic rock that has been a part of preparing Mexican cuisine from the pre-Hispanic era.  

Aguachile de pulpo, which originates from the northwest region of Mexico, features a blend of coriander, lime juice and chili poured over octopus. Bringing the taste of Veracruz to Bahrain, huachinango is a sea bass prepared with a tangy and spicy sauce, topped with a crispy chicharrón made from fish skin. Cantina Kahlo also serves three varieties of ceviche, including a vegetarian option.

No Mexican meal would be complete without tacos. The restaurant menu boasts eight varieties of soft tacos, including: al pastor, made with chicken marinated in pineapple juice and achiote paste; tacos alambre, prepared with flank steak, red bell peppers and cheese; the vegetarian hongos y flor de calabaza are made with sautéed mushrooms, topped with sour cream and zucchini blossom.  End on a sweet note with pastel de tres leches, a soft “three-milk” cake, and fried churros served with chocolate, dulce de leche and guava sauces.  

The beautiful aesthetic of the restaurant pays homage to celebrated Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Portraits of the revolutionary artist don the walls, while brightly coloured furniture encompass the essence of Mexican culture.
